I stumbled something on TikTok that really describes how it feels to be a disabled person.
I can’t find better words to express it, so I will copy paste everything here..
If you asked me what being paralyzed is like..
I would tell you that it’s hard.
But if you were to ask me on a deeper level..
I would describe it as living life from the sidelines.
As someone who was an athlete my whole life, being forced to sit still broke me.
I can no longer move freely or do whatever I want. Imagine if you could only go where there’s concrete.
Every time I go to a new restaurant, I have to plan ahead and call to make sure it’s accessible.
Being a quadriplegic is difficult in ways people do not always understand.
It’s not just about losing movement.
It’s losing spontaneity, the sense of independence, and the freedom just to get up and go.
Deep down, it feels like part of me was taken, and no amount of adjusting can fill that void.
Some days, the frustration and isolation are overwhelming, even when I try to stay positive..
